Short Term Respite (STR)
A heart-led program that feels like home — and support that feels like family. Learn more →
Our Short Term Respite (STR) provides so much more than just ‘a break’.
It’s a thoughtful, supportive space where participants can rest, reset, and build skills in a safe, calm environment.
Saircare has been a first time respite experience for many participants. What’s transpired from this is trust, predictability and eventually, for those requiring, supported independent living.
It’s so much more than just a ‘break’, it’s the stepping stone to independence and the building of trust both ways. Our STR is designed to give both participants and families the peace of mind they deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Short Term Respite just for emergencies?
Short Term Respite is often built into a Participants Plan with the goal of eventually moving into a model such as, Supported Independent Living. Often STRs are part of a routine stay, however we also accommodate to support when families are away, require emergency respite or just want to book ad-hoc to increase familiarity and trust away from the family home. It’s all about what the individual goals are. We’ll work with you to ensure the stay feels supportive, predictable, and right for your situation.
How long can someone stay in Short Term Respite?
Stays can be flexible, ranging from one night to 14 days consecutively, depending on individual needs and NDIS funding. We’ll help you plan a stay that supports rest, routine, and confidence-building — without pressure.
My family member has never stayed in respite before — will they be okay?
Absolutely. Saircare has been a first-time respite experience for many participants. We take the time to build trust, create predictability, and help each person feel safe and comfortable. Our goal is for STR to feel less like “respite” and more like a home away from home.
Can Short Term Respite help prepare someone for independent living?
Yes. This is exactly the goal. For many participants, STR becomes a stepping stone toward greater independence or supported independent living. Through routine-building, skill development, and consistent care, participants can gain confidence in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
