Supported Independent Living (SIL)
24/7 care in a home that supports real independence. Learn more →
At Saircare, SIL is a long-term, relationship-based model. We are intentionally selective because we believe a home should be built around the right people — not filled quickly.
We take time to get to know participants through our respite, programs, and community access services before considering a SIL match. This allows our team to grow alongside each person, understand their routines and communication needs, and ensure that any future home is a genuine long-term fit.
Families are encouraged to keep us in mind early, even years before SIL is needed, so we can build trust and consistency over time.

What To Expect
Our SIL homes vary in size and structure — but all share the same heart.
Each home offers:
→ 24/7 support staff
→ Personalised daily routines
→ Shared or private rooms
→ Involvement in cooking, cleaning, and planning
→ Emotional support and consistent communication
→ Community access and life skill development
Because we work with participants over time, our SIL homes are created with the people who will live in them. We don’t keep houses ‘ready to go’; instead, once we know we’re the right long-term fit, we support families to secure the right home and build the environment together. This ensures compatibility, safety, and a genuine sense of belonging from day one.

Why Families Love This Program
Moving out doesn’t mean doing it alone. Our SIL model is built on safety, dignity, and genuine partnership. Why it works:
✓ Homes feel warm, safe, and personal
✓ Participants are given choice and responsibility
✓ Support workers create consistency and connection
✓ Strong communication with families
✓ Clear focus on individual goals and long-term independence
Every participant is supported to make their space their own, have a say in their day, and build a life that reflects their goals and preferences.
Our selective matching process means every home is carefully planned. We take the time to understand personalities, routines, and natural friendships — often formed through our programs — to create a household that feels calm, safe, and sustainable long-term. Families value that we place quality and compatibility above filling spaces quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have availability immediately?
We take a thoughtful and planned approach to SIL, which means we rarely have immediate availability. Before entering a supported home, we spend time getting to know you and your family to ensure we are the right long-term fit. If you’re considering SIL in the future, we encourage you to connect with us early.
Can I choose my housemate?
Yes. Once we agree that we’re a great match for one another, we work closely with you to ensure your housemate is someone you feel safe and comfortable living with. Ideally, these are people you’ve already built a natural friendship with through our programs or respite.
If I choose you for SIL, do I have to use you for community access and programs?
No. We prefer that participants in SIL with us have a balanced support network. You do not need to use Saircare for everything — we collaborate with your existing providers to ensure your overall support stays person-centred and consistent.
Do you knock back tenants?
We believe in honesty and transparency. If we don’t feel we can create the right home environment for you — or if we can’t match you with a compatible housemate — we will let you know early. This is never about rejecting people; it’s about ensuring you end up in a home where you will genuinely thrive.
Do you have houses ready to move into?
No, and this is intentional. We don’t keep vacant properties waiting. Once we know we’re the right fit long-term, we work together with families to secure the right home and create the environment around the people who will live in it. Homes are built collaboratively, not rushed.
